McHale's Broken Computer
Took my tablet to a few shops today. First one said they can't mess with power jacks because they don't do soldering. They gave me a number to a place in West Palm that would "probably do it for a hundred bucks." Never called the number. The next shop said they wouldn't touch a power jack because it's on a motherboard, which might crack when they try to fix it.
Finally, I found a place closer than the West Palm shop I'd gotten a number for, and they said they have a flat rate of 150 bucks. When the dude saw my sweet tablet, he at first said it wasn't a cracked power jack and that probably wasn't the problem. Then he messed with it a bit before saying he could have it fixed in a week for 180-ish bucks. Ouch. But I signed the paper and have been trying to forget about it.
Last night I saw Joel McHale (host of E's The Soup) do stand-up. Here's a conversation between him and Cara and myself after the show:
We'd just taken a group photo with all nine friends who attended and Joel.
Afterwards, Cara walked up to him and said, "I know my boyfriend will be embarrassed about this, but he'd really like a picture with just him and you."
Joel looked excited.
"I'd like a picture with him, too!"
I reached out to shake his hand, with a big smile on my face.
"You're very tall," I said, happy to tell him what I'd been shocked by all night. It's a weird thing to tell someone, but I didn't want to be like "Nice to meet you." How lame is that? He already knows its nice to meet him, or there wouldn't have been a half hour long line to see him after the show.
He was obviously caught off guard by my comment (not quite as much as when he was walking by us after walking off the stage and Lauren made eye contact with him--only to shout "AHHHHHH!" directly in his face as he passed--and she made him jump).
"So are you," he laughed. He's taller. We shook hands, and he put his arm around me for the photo. I hesitated before putting my arm around him too.
"You guys looked great," Cara said.
"Not as good as you," he replied, which flustered her, and then we left.
