Obligatory "electoral college" post

So, they've been saying for 'round 200 years that the "electoral college is a flawed system."

Here's an interesting twist that I bet you didn't know: four states already have a solution.

Obviously, the electorally heavy-hitting states haven't signed on, but it is a curious sort of pact they're talking about making, in which all states sign a contract to give their electoral votes to the popular vote winner.

Also, the big news today is Caroline Kennedy seeking Clinton's NY Senate seat. This has been in the papers, online, and on television for weeks now. How exactly would this be news? I guess she just officially said "that'd be cool." Whatevs.

[EDIT - I'd like to add the following from Caroline Kennedy's Wikipedia page, after reading up on the Kennedys for the last few hours: "A photo of a young Caroline with her pony in a news article inspired singer-songwriter Neil Diamond to write his hit song "Sweet Caroline," a fact he revealed only when performing it for her 50th birthday in November 2007."]

[EDIT EDIT - RE: JFK Jr.'s funeral: During the memorial service on July 23, 1999, Kennedy's uncle, Massachusetts Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy, stated, "We dared to think, in that other Irish phrase, that this John Kennedy would live to comb gray hair, with his beloved Carolyn by his side. But, like his father, he had every gift but length of years." And of his nephew's marriage, he invoked what had been said of his brother's Presidency: both lasted 1,000 days. Then-U.S. President Bill Clinton attended the funeral and ordered that the flag at the White House be lowered to half-staff in honor of JFK, Jr.]

Man!
